Police Investigate Human Bones Found Near Brooklyn Carousel

Police in New York City are actively investigating two incidents where human bones were discovered near a Brooklyn carousel.
On Wednesday, the New York Police Department (NYPD) told Newsweek that skeletal remains were found near the Brooklyn Bridge Park in two separate instances.
The first incident occurred on Monday, August 19, when the NYPD received a 911 call at around 8:50 a.m. local time for a report of “a found body part at the rear of 55 Water Street in the confines of the 84 precinct.”
“A preliminary investigation determined that a NYC Parks enforcement Officer discovered skeletal remains on the beach,” a spokesperson for the NYPD told Newsweek.
According to the spokesperson, the city’s Chief Medical Examiner is actively conducting an investigation into the human remains that were found near the beach.
However, a few days later on Wednesday morning, the NYPD responded to a second 911 call “for a found body part at 47 Water Street in the confines of the 84 precinct.”
“A preliminary investigation determined that a civilian discovered skeletal remains on the rocks along the shore,” the NYPD spokesperson told Newsweek, adding that the medical examiner is working on an investigation into the discovery.
The NYPD have yet to release any further information on what specific remains were found in the two instances. Authorities have also yet to release any information on how the remains ended up in the same vicinity or the identity of the skeletal remains.
Both discoveries were made near Jane’s Carousel in the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
According to PIX 11 News in New York, videos shared on the Citizen app showed NYPD officials speaking to possible witnesses near the scene. A scuba team was also seen in the waters near where the parts were found, PIX 11 News reported.
On Wednesday morning, WABC-TV in New York spoke with some individuals in the Brooklyn Bridge Park when the remains were found.
“You don’t usually see that nowadays honestly, it feels like something from the 1970s or so, but you live and learn every day,” one person told the local news station.
A number of photos and videos of the incident were also shared on social media.
On X, formerly Twitter, user @CrimeInNYC wrote, “For the second time in a week, police are investigating after human bones were discovered at Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo. A femur and a couple of smaller bones were found just after midnight Wednesday near the carousel. The discovery comes after patrol officers found a skull and bones on Monday morning in the park.”
The Citizen app also shared a video on X and wrote, “Police are on scene investigating the discovery of bone fragments near water in Brooklyn.”
